Brighton Food Pantry - A Letter from George H. Earle - May 14, 2009

Dear Neighbors:

I realize that we all receive numerous solicitations and support many charities. This is a serious need that I believe, we, as a group, can make a substantial difference in its success. It is the area food pantry that is operated through the town of Brighton and a sponsoring church.

In today's economic times, this food pantry is being called on to help a staggering need in the Saranac Lake area. It is only April and they have already used up their annual state grant for this year of $6,000 and are now relying on personal donations and money received from the redemption of cans and bottles to keep the food flowing to their needy patrons.

We can make a significant difference in the success of this program through our support. They supply food to over 150 families. They buy lots of 5,000 pounds of food and supplies for 10 to 15 cents a pound. This fills about 250 bags of food and necessities for these families on a bi-weekly basis.

In addition to financial contributions, the Pantry has other needs. They accept and distribute old clothes, used furniture, tools and presently are in need of trailers to transport their goods (boat trailers can be easily be adapted to this use).

Barb Marshall (327-3297) is the head of the food pantry and has done a great job in managing this effort. She can receive donations at the following address:

Brighton Food Pantry
P.O. Box 96 Rainbow Lake, NY 12976

If you have other items to donate, please contact me and I will help coordinate their pick-up/delivery. Thank you for your consideration.

George Earle
